Art Museum and Artmobile Featured in UWYO Magazine

The fine and performing arts are the focus of the January 2012 issue of UWYO Magazine, available now in print and online. Featured alongside such great programs at UW such as Cultural Programs and the Music, Theater, and Dance Departments, the Art Museum is excited to be featured. Images and information from past exhibitions and installations are highlighted, as are the goals and motivations of the Art Museum. Discussions with key personnel showcase the accomplishments of the exhibitions, education, and outreach of the museum.

Also included in this issue is the Ann Simpson Artmobile. UWYO Magazine followed Artmobile curator Beth Remington on a recent visit to Saratoga, where students had the opportunity to view original artwork and then make their own art project inspired by what they saw.

Laramie: A Gem City Atlas on View at Coe Library

The exhibition, Laramie: A Gem City Atlas is now on view at Coe Library. The original exhibition was shown at the Art Museum in the spring and is the result of a collaboration with the MFA in Creative Writing Program, eminent writer in residence Rebecca Solnit, and various students, artists, and community members.

The pieces in the exhibition are maps that re-think Laramie and the surrounding area, focusing not solely on geography but also on goods, services, and people. Artwork that was made in response to the topics of the maps are also included.

Coe Library has a special exhibitions space (pictured above) on the 3rd floor that allows them to exhibit and showcase art. Laramie: A Gem City Atlas will be on view through September. The cell phone audio tour is also available and features the mapmakers talking about their work.

Andy Warhol Sale at the Museum Store

The Museum Store at the UW Art Museum is holding a 50% off sale on Andy Warhol merchandise! The exhibition, Iconic Mass Culture: Andy Warhol's Portraits closed this past Saturday after great visitor turnout and an enthusiastic response! To say thanks for visiting, and to carry on the celebration of his work, this sale will run though the end of the year.

Items for sale include t-shirts, canvas totes, playing cards, books and catalogs, magnets, and notecards. If you saw the exhibition and missed out on purchasing one of these great items, or if you're simply an Andy Warhol fan, be sure to visit the Museum Store, which is open 10 am - 5 pm Monday through Saturday, with Monday hours extended to 9 pm through the end of November.
