Artist Interview with Chris Drury Coming Soon

The latest in a series of artist interviews was filmed today by UWTV. British land artist Chris Drury is wrapping up his visit and answered a series of questions about his research and creative process, his artistic inspiration from forms in nature, and the materials he used in his sculpture. The filmed interview will be edited and posted on the Art Museum's webpage and YouTube page.

Drury was filmed with his newly installed sculpture, Carbon Sink: What Goes Around, Comes Around, as the backdrop. This is the 12th artist interview that UWTV has collaborated with the Art Museum on, however, this is the first interview to be filmed outside!

New Artist Interview with Etsuko Ichikawa on YouTube

The latest artist interview is now available for viewing on the Art Museum's YouTube page. Etsuko Ichikawa was interviewed in February while she on on-site installing her work. NACHI - between the eternal and the ephemeral - is a site-specific installation, created specifically for the UW Art Museum. In her interview, Ichikawa talks about her inspiration for working with a range of materials that includes thread, video, audio, and pyrographs, which are drawing made from molten glass on paper. She also discusses the role of movement in her work and the process of creating, transporting, and unpacking the work.

The series of video interviews with contemporary artists is an ongoing collaboration with UWTV and enables us to capture the voice, words, and ideas of our visiting artists and share that information publicly. We hope that hearing directly from the artist is inspiring, engaging, and encourages you to visit or re-visit their work with a new perspective.

Etsuko Ichikawa: NACHI - between the eternal and the ephemeral - is on view through August 6, 2011. The Art Museum is open Monday through Saturday, 10 am - 5 pm, with extended Monday hours until 9 pm through the first Monday of May. Admission is free. Neltje Video Interview Available Online

The latest in the series of artist interviews by UWTV is now available on the UW homepage (you may have to click the reload button until you see the above image). The video interview with Wyoming artist Neltje is also be available on the Art Museum's YouTube page.

Neltje was at the UW Art Museum in June to open her solo exhibition, Neltje, which is on view through August 28. While she was here, UWTV producer and director Ali Grossman filmed an interview with Neltje in front of her work. Neltje discusses things like her inspiration, working in Wyoming, and her creative process.

Dufy by Design Video Online

A video highlighting the exhibition, Dufy by Design: The Fabric Designs of Raoul Dufy, shot by UWTV Director and Producer Ali Grossman, is now featured on the University of Wyoming homepage. The short video shows 360 degree views of the exhibition, including images of the thirteen dresses on display. It connects the historic fabric designs, seen hanging on the walls, with the contemporary dress designs. The video is also available on the Art Museum's YouTube page.

Interview with artist Kwang-Young Chun now online

The UW Art Museum has recently partnered with UWTV on an exciting new project to record and film interviews with regional, national and international contemporary artists. Every year, the Art Museum brings 5-8 contemporary artists onto campus for exhibitions, hands-on demonstrations and public programs. Now, with the help of UWTV, these artists' words, ideas, inspiration and their unique artistic voice will be captured on video and made available to students, community members, and anyone with Internet access!

The first filmed interview of what will hopefully be many to come, is with Korean artist Kwang-Young Chun, whose work is currently on view at the Art Museum. In this short video Chun explains the ideas behind his work, and it also shows the Art Museum's Education Curator, Wendy Bredehoft, interacting with local junior high students in the gallery.

These interviews provide insight into work and exhibitions that are on view at the Art Museum. Hearing directly from an artist about his or her work is a great way to learn about the art, and maybe gain a greater understanding and appreciation for the work.

The filmed interview with Chun can now be seen on the UW homepage. As the University rotates main features on their website, you may have to click the "refresh" or "reload" button several times until the webpage cycles to the interview.

The next interview that will be made available is James Surls, who talks about his new work that was recently installed in Coe Library.
